Philosophers in Love: Where to Find a Philosopher

So, let's assume that after all of these blog posts on philosophers, you simply have to go out and find yourself a philosopher of your very own. Where might you find one? I've created a graph that might help you in your endeavors.

[Note: This graph is also useful if you have a philosopher, but you've misplaced her/him somehow].

Click on the graph to make it larger.

This is, of course, super-scientific, so please interpret this graph as if it is 100% accurate. [Note: Sarcasm alert!! This is for you, next anonymous commenter who reminds me that all philosophers are unique snowflakes].

You can follow me on twitter (@philosiologist) or friend me on facebook (Philosiologist Qed). I also usually answer emails eventually (left sidebar). If you have an offspring or are an offspring of a philosopher and would like to recommend your offspring to write/write a guest blog post about what it's like to be a philosopher's offspring, please send me an email or fb message.

    ???

My philosopher loves blockbuster action movies! One happy consequence of breeding: he now has a 12-year-old philosopher-spawn to enjoy such movies with (his nonphilosopher spouse snarks off too much to make her company desirable at such events).

  4. If you want to find a Wittgenstein, go sit in the front seats of theaters playing blockbuster action movies.

  6. I met my philosopher in the library. :D We were both working there. haha. Also, we just spent a good 6-7 months on a quest for the perfect Starbucks. He is very particular about the Starbucks he can work in, but we've finally found a good one, and he can be found there 90% of the time that he's not at home. When he feels like a change of scenery... he goes to a different Starbucks. hahaha

  7. @GEC: many philosophers love Truly Shitty Movies in general; at least a few I've known were fond of action flicks, but not big budget ones—those were too good. Truth be told, there's no one section of the video rental store you'll find a philosopher in until they devote a shelf to "Never Should Have Been Made," subsection "Unsafe to Watch—Not for Human Consumption." Pop in one of those films and every philosopher without an overblown ego within ten miles will show up at your house.

  8. Heh, I also met my philosopher on the internet! He doesn't like coffee shops much and we sometimes go on dates to action movies, though, so he may be slightly atypical.

These philosophers in love posts are very sweet! Keep 'em coming!

Annapolis Aethelfrith is spot-on. But in my experience, philosophers tend NOT to fall in love with people who appreciate these, uh, cinematic gems.

  11. Ooh, what is "ethnic" food? The philosopher in me can't help but question you a bit on that one.

  12. Around here we have a coffee shop that serves coffee, wine and free wifi. I am pretty sure that if it on your graph it would have some pretty extreme ratings.

  13. Fort Collins has a spot that is a coffee shop during the day, a craft beer bar late into the night, and a bike shop all over. I hope the chart goes up to 11.
